Wednesday evening, the Shippensburg University men’s wrestling team faced Elizabethtown for the first dual meet of the year.

The night started out slow for the Raiders, losing matches at 125, 133 and 141 pounds.

The Raiders faced a 14-0 deficit until redshirt sophomore Mike Trainor ignited a fire by winning his match at 149 on a major decision, 16-1.

To tie the score at 14-14, junior Anthony Lavish (157) followed Trainor with a decision over his opponent and freshman Anthony DeAngelo (165) secured a pin.

Junior Trey Shoemaker (174) put the Raiders ahead with a decision over Elizabethtown’s Jacob Speed, 5-3.

The Raiders, however, soon lost momentum, falling in their last three matches of the night, 27-17.

SU will continue its road stint at Saint Vincent next Tuesday. The dual meet will begin at 7 p.m.
