Shippensburg University men’s basketball secured its first win of the season at Wilmington last Wednesday after a late second half surge. SU’s overall record moves to 1-2.

The Raiders and Wildcats were back and forth for most of the first half. Neither team could truly pull ahead of the other and by the final minute SU was only up by two points, 31-29.

The Wildcats found early success in the second half. They went for a 19-3 run over SU to secure a 41-34 lead with 17 minutes left.

SU countered with a 16-1 run, and with the Raiders up five, head coach Chris Fite called a timeout.

The timeout turned out to be exactly what the team needed. From that point, the Raiders controlled the second half and secured a 23-point lead with five minutes left.

Ultimately, the Raiders secured their first victory, 90-74.

Shippensburg shot 53% from the field and won the rebound battle by six.

Redshirt sophomore Markus Frank led both teams in scoring with 29 points on the night. He added a season-high nine rebounds and blocked three shots.

Junior point guard Timmy Conner broke new career highs with an impressive second half. He collected five assists, six threes and 22 points.

Junior Donovan Hill secured his first double-double of the season with 14 rebounds and a career-high 16 points.

The Raiders returned home Monday for their home opener against Chestnut Hill.
