Shippensburg Tennis defeats Clarion on the road despite rain delay

Shippensburg University Women’s Tennis defeated Clarion for a road win on Wednesday. 

After an 80-minute rain delay, the Raiders won 6-1 to move the team’s season record to 2-1 overall. 

Junior Corinne Markovich and freshman Jade Miller teamed up for a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while senior Kendall Winters and sophomore Ava Kalist teamed up for a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles to gain early momentum for SU. 

Senior Brooklyn Rupert and sophomore Rachel Gallagher won four games at No. 1 doubles. Rupert also won her No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Gallagher won her No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1. 

Overall, the Raiders had a great singles performance. Apart from Rupert and Gallagher, Miller also won 6-1, 6-1, Kalist won 6-3, 6-2 and sophomore Brinley Orris won 6-0, 6-0. 

The Raiders will be back home at Robb Sports Complex for two matchups against Gettysburg College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and D’Youville University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
