Shippensburg University’s baseball team fell in its final game of the regular season on May 1 against the Frostburg State Bobcats. The team finished with a 26-19 record overall and 19-13 in PSAC play.

Wednesday afternoon was a regional placement battle based on the latest edition of the Atlantic Region rankings that was released during the contest. Frostburg is fifth in the Atlantic, while Shippensburg is eighth.

Sophomore J.T. Weaver got the start on the mound, going six innings. In the first inning, he was tagged for three runs which occurred due to a blasted homerun by FSU’s Ryan Bouma that sent home two baserunners.

SU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning with a homer from junior Gio Calamia. Calamia was the only Raider with a multi-hit game, going 3-for-5 at the plate.

The Bobcats went up two more runs in the following inning to cushion themselves into a 5-1 advantage. Junior Jaxon Dalena came on after the runs in relief of Weaver to collect three outs to end the seventh.

The Raiders were able to load the bases with no outs in the eighth. Senior Andrew Chronister drove in one run with a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield. Frostburg was able to make the final two outs before SU could find momentum.

In the final inning, FSU was able to add one more over SU after Bouma hit in his fourth RBI of the day. The final score was 6-2 for the Bobcats.

Shippensburg did outhit Frostburg despite the score line by a 9-8 margin. There were also no errors from either team.

Weaver was credited with the loss, bringing his record to 4-4. He finished with three earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
