Drake: Jumbotron was poppin'

Drake’s most recent tour, “Big as the What?” was an unbeatable experience for many. Throughout the nine months of the tour, Drake has had many additional performers for his concerts that people have enjoyed.

On March 31, Drake brought Lil Wayne on the stage. Both rappers have had an enormous impact from generation to generation, as they have been around for decades. Their lyricism is inspirational and they encompass rare entertainment skills. The ability to watch them do what they love is special.

Reagan

Throughout my childhood, I had always looked up to Lil Wayne. My older cousin Blayne, who I often call my brother, was into hip-hop music and introduced me to several rappers growing up. One of the rappers I had heard about was Lil Wayne. Coincidentally, as a child, it was difficult for me to pronounce “Blayne.” Because of this, I would say “Wayne,” and I still call him this today. Lil Wayne is familial, personal and inspirational to me in more than one way.

As embarrassing as it is to admit, I had a Nicki Minaj fan account with one of my best friends at 12 years old. Nicki Minaj, Drake and Lil Wayne have been seen together for years, so they were posted frequently together on the account. Seeing people love one another so purely and help each other has always appealed to me because I believe we choose our family in this life.

Seeing Drake and Lil Wayne together at the concert healed my inner child. I felt the same excitement I had when I heard their songs for the first time. It was my first time again. This time it was real, and it was right in front of my face.

Rylee

It was the day I had only dreamt of. I was in the same room as Drake, Lil Wayne and their

harmonic voices. To say that I am grateful to have gone to one of his live shows is an understatement. It was life changing.

I have been a Drake fan since I had access to my first iPod at 10 years old. No other artist resonated with me like he did. Surrounded by a fandom who admire Drake’s story was an experience of which I am proud to have been a part. Even better, I was able to experience this with a special friend who has been by my side since the day we met (literally).

Lil Wayne joining Drake on his cross-country tour was beyond exciting, as I witnessed two of the most notorious rappers to date live in front of my eyes. Leaving the Bryce Jordan Center made me feel like I was reinvented. This is your sign to buy those concert tickets you have been wanting and let loose for a night. Make me proud.

It was 8 p.m. in State College. Yes, we spent an insane amount of money on Drake merchandise. Yes, it was worth it. No, we would never have that opportunity again. Yes, it was a fair trade.
