Shippensburg University’s baseball team went 2-2 this weekend, dropping a pair of home games to Bloomsburg on Friday before winning both road games Sunday.

The Raiders moved their record to 14-8. Raiders pitching only allowed six runs across the four games, with all Raiders starting pitchers going five or more innings.

Bloomsburg earned a 2-0 win in Friday’s first game. Shippensburg held the Huskies hitless through four innings but gave up four hits in the fifth, including a two-run double for Brady Ebbert.

Junior Jaxon Dalena had a strong start on the mound. He pitched five innings and allowed two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out seven. He got the loss, moving his record to 1-1. Offensively, the Raiders only mustered two hits, singles from junior Gio Calamia and freshman Erby Weller.

Friday’s second game was quite like the first, with the Huskies earning a 3-0 victory. Bloomsburg got an RBI single in the second inning to go ahead 1-0, before picking up two more in the third. The Raiders had a hit in five of seven innings but could not score.

Shippensburg head baseball coach Matt Jones summed up the day’s struggles bluntly, saying, “I can’t remember getting shut out twice in one day. We pitched well enough to win but we were hot trash at the plate.”

The Raiders got in the win column on Sunday, collecting a 1-0 victory to open the doubleheader. Graduate Justin Byler drove in the only run of the contest, hitting a sacrifice fly in the first inning to score Calamia.

J.T. Weaver was the star of the contest, going 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and walking one, moving to 3-1 this season. He also added a career-high 12 strikeouts, the most in a game from a Shippensburg pitcher since 2022. Senior Ethan Miller relieved him, getting his second save of the season.

Shippensburg’s hitting came to life in the last game of the series with a 5-1 victory. The Raiders went ahead on a solo home run from senior Austin Baal in the second inning, scoring again in the third before adding on three runs in the sixth.

Heckman doubled the Raiders lead with an RBI single in the third, his lone hit in the contest. Freshman Brady Harbach had an RBI single as part of his two hits, with senior Brock Piper also driving in a run. Calamia continued his strong series with a pair of hits.

Senior Gabe Stotler earned the victory in his start, moving to 3-2 on the year. He went five innings and allowed just one run on three hits with no walks, also getting four strikeouts.

Shippensburg baseball will travel to Seton Hill on Tuesday for a nonconference battle before a four-game conference series against Shepherd. The series starts with a home doubleheader at Fairchild Field on Friday at 1p.m. before moving to Shepherd on Saturday.
