Shippensburg University’s women’s soccer team took on Millersville University Wednesday afternoon at David See Field but fell short to the Marauders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match up.

Both teams played hard from the onset of the game and defended the ball fiercely. Millersville brought a tough fight for Shippensburg, but the Raiders continued to fight back.

Shippensburg defended its goal for the first time just 15 minutes into the game with a shot on goal from Millersville.

With visibly strong teamwork skills, the Raiders worked together to get the ball down the field to earn their first shot on goal 30 minutes into the first half.

Millersville scored with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half of the match up. The goal was scored by graduate student Bailey Hunt, who made her way through Shippensburg defenders and kicked the ball to hit the side bar and bounce into the goal.

Coming out of the gate strong to start the second half, Shippensburg had three shots on goal in the first 15 minutes.

Following Shippensburg’s third shot on goal, Millersville drove the ball down the field and earned themselves a corner kick by Hunt. Hunt passed the ball to senior Palina Jordan, who kicked the ball just above the Shippensburg goalie’s head to ultimately extend the Millersville lead to 2-0.

Shippensburg scored a goal with 20 minutes left in the game. The goal was scored by senior Nicole Tormann, which was the first of her career at Shippensburg University. Tormann kicked a corner kick, and the ball bounced off another player’s body in the box and went into the goal.

Despite faithful efforts and fighting until the end, Shippensburg was unable to tie the game in the final minutes of the second half. The game ended 2-1, with Shippensburg falling short of a PSAC win.

Women’s soccer will be on the road this weekend at East Stroudsburg Saturday for a game that begins at 4 p.m.
