The Shippensburg Women’s Rugby team has been offered a DII slot for the National Collegiate Rugby 7s Championships in Washington, D.C. on April 28.

The season ended last weekend with a 2-2 record at the Eastern Penn small college championships held at Franklin and Marshall College. SU ended the day in fifth place. York College came in first, and Marywood University was runner-up with an automatic spot at Nationals.

Overall this season, the team went 16-7 if you account for tournament wins and forfeits. For competitive game play, the record for the season was 9-7.

Most of the women on this team have not been given the opportunity to go to Nationals, so the nerves are high. These women have not made it to a national championship since 2011.

“I am excited! A little stressed out from planning but extremely proud and just want to represent our team and school well,” Lael Thomas said.

Next weekend, SU will be up against The University of Texas San Antonio and Roger Williams University. Times for the matches have not yet been determined. You can watch and support these women on the National Collegiate Rugby YouTube.
