The Shippensburg Raiders baseball team dropped a three-game series to East Stroudsburg this past weekend, dropping to 16-12 on the season and 4-5 in PSAC play. Shippensburg’s bats were quiet throughout the series, only scoring three runs total across the three games.

After dropping a midweek game at home to Seton Hill 6-2, the Raiders hit the road for a doubleheader on Friday. The first game was a seven-inning contest, with the second game being a standard nine innings.

Game 1 was a pitchers’ duel, with East Stroudsburg taking a 2-0 win. Graduate Noah Nabholz pitched the full game for the Raiders, giving up two earned runs on four hits and two walks in his six innings of work. He also struck out four batters.

Sophomore Bryce Herb led the way offensively for Shippensburg, picking up half of the Raiders’ four hits with a two-for-three performance. Sophomore Gio Calamia and freshman Mike Heckman each had a hit in the game as well.

Game 2 on Friday got out of hand, with East Stroudsburg picking up an 18-1 victory. The Raiders did pick up the first run of the game in the second inning, but the Warriors fought back with a six-run third inning before piling it on.

Freshman J.T. Weaver got the loss, going three innings in his start and giving up six runs, four of them being earned. He also allowed five hits and one walk.

Freshman Tony Falvo had the lone RBI of the game for Shippensburg as part of a two-for-four showing. Junior Austin Baal, freshman Sawyer Whitaker and redshirt sophomore Brock Piper each had two hits as well, with Piper scoring the team’s run.

The series wrapped up on Sunday here in Shippensburg, with ESU winning that contest 6-2. It was a bit of a sloppy game on both sides, with a combined five errors and 12 walks. The Raiders again struck first with a run in the second, before the Warriors scored in each of the next four innings.

Redshirt freshman Eric Bohenek went four innings in his start, giving up three earned runs on two hits and five walks while picking up the loss. Junior Jackson LoBianco pitched five innings in relief, giving up three runs, two earned.

In terms of hitting, Piper gave the Raiders the lead in the second with his first home run of the season. Graduate Justin Byler was the only Raider with multiple hits in the game, going two for four.

Shippensburg resumes play on Tuesday with a solo game at Frostburg State University before a weekend conference series against Shepherd University. The series starts with a single road game on Friday at 2 p.m., before a home doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
