Jefferson leads women’s basketball to two PSAC wins

Senior Destiny Jefferson poured in 18 points against the Rams and scored 24 points versus Bloomsburg.

This week the Shippensburg women’s basketball team defeated two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foes, the West Chester Golden Rams and Bloomsburg Huskies.  

The Raiders traveled to West Chester on Monday and defeated the Golden Rams 63-58. The Raiders then traveled to Bloomsburg and defeated the Huskies 64-54. 

The Raiders got off to a hot start in the first quarter of the game against the Golden Rams, heading into the second quarter with a four-point lead. In the second quarter, the Raiders continued to extend their lead outscoring the Golden Rams 24-13 in the second quarter. 

The Raiders went into halftime with a 40-25 lead and in the third quarter they stretched that lead to 18 points. The Golden Rams however were able to counter with a 10-0 run, narrowing the deficit to three points. The Raiders ended the third quarter with the lead 55-45. 

In the fourth quarter the Raiders closed out the win and ended up defeating the Golden Rams 71-64. 

Junior Aunbrielle Green had her fourth double double of the season and her 14th of her career. Senior Destiny Jefferson had 18 points, five rebounds and three assists. 

After having their divisional bye on Wednesday, the Raiders traveled to Bloomsburg on Saturday. 

In the first quarter, the Raiders jumped out to a lead with 5-0 run in the first few minutes of the game but ended the first quarter with just an 11-9 lead. 

The second quarter was competitive and SU was able to pull away, taking a nine-point lead into the second half. 

In the third quarter the Huskies countered an 11-2 run and took a 42-40 lead with less than two minutes left in the quarter. The Raiders were able to tie the game heading into the final frame. 

The Raiders pulled away from the Huskies in the final quarter, outscoring the Huskies 19-9 in the quarter. The Raiders defeated the Huskies 64-54. 

Jefferson led the Raiders in scoring again, pouring in 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Raiders will continue their road trip on Wednesday when they face Shepherd University.
