ShipTalks: What should I do during summer break?

As the semester is coming to an end, students are pushing through the dreaded finals week to start summer break. There are a variety of things you can do this summer to better yourself while also relaxing.

Summer break is a time to explore options you may not have had time for during the school year. Take the time now to do a fun activity you could not do because you were studying. Explore new hobbies or find a new job to fill the extra time you now have. It is good to keep yourself active and busy, but remember to take time for yourself. You just finished a less-than-normal semester of school, afterall.

While the COVID-19 coronavirus has been getting in the way of plans, that does not mean you have to sit at home and do nothing all summer.

Spend time outside in the sun now that the weather is getting warmer. Make sure to wear sunscreen.

Getting enough sunlight is beneficial to skin, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Take a walk but make sure to stay at least 6-feet from others to maintain social distance at all times.

If you want to get ahead in your degree, consider taking a summer course. You can find information about summer classes at ship.edu/summer/.

Whether you decide to stay at home, work or plan ahead, use this summer to do what you enjoy. Being a college student is not easy and you should give yourself time to recuperate from the semester.

Sincerely,

The ShipTalker
