A Shippensburg University group that recognizes excellence announced the winners of the 2020 Student Life Awards.

Leader@SHIP announced the full list of winners, celebrating the Shippensburg University campus community members as an unconventional spring semester drew to a close.

The group shared quotes and photos of the winners on its social media pages after announcing winners on its Instagram account @leadershippensburg on May 1.

Emily Javitt, SU assistant director for engagement and leadership, said the awards are held annually to recognize students, faculty and staff who go above and beyond in their duties to make a positive impact on campus.

“They may be exceptional leaders, remarkable team players or impactful advisers,” Javitt said.

The awards include undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff advisers and student groups.

Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, Leader@SHIP virtually celebrated the winners on social media.

Javitt said the nomination process is online and did not have to change since students were not on campus. This year, Leader@SHIP received 160 nominations for the annual award.

Among the winners is Clarence Johnson who is one of two recipients of “Outstanding Sophomore.”

“Shippensburg University has become a home to me and a place that has led me numerous opportunities,” Johnson said. “To receive this award is truly an honor; and will certainly drive me to continue to be a striving leader in this community.”

Alix Rouby, SU internships director, received the “Outstanding Adviser” award.

“Being a club adviser is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work at Shippensburg University,” Rouby said. “The return on your time and energy investment as an adviser is so worthwhile when you see the tremendous growth our students experience during their time here with us.”

According to Javitt, individual winners received a $100 Amazon gift card and student groups received an additional $100 in their budget for the 2020-21 academic year. All winners received an award written with their name and year.
