The student body has determined who will lead the Student Government Association for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Stephen Washington will step back from his position of student trustee on the Shippensburg University Council of Trustees and take the helm of the ship as SGA President. Clarence “Trey” Johnson will sound off as the vice president of internal affairs, Lance Hines-Butts will take office as the vice president of external affairs, Riley Brown will be vice president of student groups and Brenda Aristy will be vice president of budget and finance.

The Student Trustee normally oversees the election processes for SGA, however because Washington was running for president, Isaac Dietrich, the current vice president of internal affairs, ran the proceedings.

Last year, SGA set a record with around 995 students voting. This year’s turnout for the elections blew that out of the water when 1570 students submitted a vote.

Various candidates held campaigning events leading up to the election, a hallmark in this election.

Students will decide who else will represent the campus in the upcoming senatorial elections. Students interested in advocating for others can begin petitioning March 16, the day students return from spring break.
