For those wanting an escape from stress or anxiety, Activities Program Board (APB) hosted its first-ever wellness event.

SU’s APB hosted the wellness event to help students overcome stress.

APB provided healthy refreshments such as water and fruits to encourage students to take care of their physical health. Various succulent plants laid out on tables for students to engage in a calming activity of planting flowers.

Izzi Ortiz, APB’s team bonding coordinator, led the event with her dedication for self-care. Ortiz wanted students to participate in taking care of their mental health and de-stress from their problems.

“We want people to come to an event that is stress-free and show that there are healthier options when it comes to entertainment since the campus lacks that,” Ortiz said.

APB invited representatives from both the Wellness Center and the University Counseling Center (UCC) to provide additional information to students to seek help.

Robyn Swayne, a graduate assistant of the UCC on campus, spent the night reading off information from tri-fold displays. The displays detailed the center’s mission to aid students with consultation services and mental health awareness.

Swayne is pleased APB sponsored the program that created a safe space for students.

“I wish I would have done more self-care when I was a student,” Swayne said.

APB is hoping to host more self-care events this semester to help students reduce stress and educate more people on the importance of self-awareness.
