The Shippensburg University wrestling team travelled to East Stroudsburg University last Friday to take part in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup. The Raiders lost 21–19, as it was unable to overcome the early deficit.

SU’s Dustin Steffenino, Cole Rush, and Karl Lightner started off the day and were all defeated in closely-contested decisions. SU only had two victories in the opening eight matches, with one of them coming from a forfeit. Mike Springer picked up the other win with a pin victory in the 149-pound weight class bout.

Adam Martz and Hunter Fenk dropped their matches for SU, once again in close decisions. 165-pounder Billy Barnes lost his match because of an injury. Evan Ramos improved his season record to 16–1 with a 10–2 major decision for SU. Derek Berberick gave SU its second win in a row with a close decision in the heavyweight division.

The loss dropped SU to 0–3 in the PSAC and it was SU’s first loss in wrestling to East Stroudsburg since 2011.

SU then took on Elizabethtown College last Tuesday at Heiges Field House and recorded a dominant victory, 38–10. Mike Springer, Adam Martz, and Ryan Narber all picked up pin victories for SU. Springer leads the team with six pins on the season and has now won six-straight matches.

Narber pinned his opponent in 2:15 for his first collegiate win. Lightner won his match by technical fall and Berberick won a decision, 10–5. Ramos and Rush won their matches by forfeit. Steffenino and Fenk lost their matches by hard-fought decisions. SU improved its record to 6–9 with the win.
