‘Sinatra Forever,’ some music never dies

Frank Sinatra will rise from the grave, not in body, but rather in voice during Sinatra Forever: Salute to Frank Sinatra. Vocal impressionist Rick Michel, who Variety magazine has referred to as, “The closest thing to Sinatra we’ve ever had,” will take center stage at the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, to give Shippensburg a taste of music that will arguably never die.

Michel has a significant amount of experience in the music industry, as he has been performing on stage since 1980, and with 40 of those years spent touring “Sinatra Forever,” he surely is no novice on the life and music of Sinatra.

“I think Frank Sinatra was the most articulate of all the pop and standard singers,” Michel said. “He made songs his own by uniquely phrasing the words to wrap around the melody line like no one else before him or since.”

With over half of the musicians performing with Michel during “Sinatra Forever” having played with Sinatra before, the already genuine nature of the show is taken to another level of reality.

“I have tried to touch upon all aspects of Mr. Sinatra’s life by choosing a variety of music that best represents his career,” Mitchel said. The show’s 22-song set clearly shows the variety that Michel aims for as it covers everything from classics like, “Witchcraft” to songs that are not as widely known, such as “I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” which was featured in the musical “Guys and Dolls.”

Reserved tickets are now on sale for $39, $34, $29 and $25. A group discount is available for groups of 20 or more. Tickets can be purchased by visiting or calling the Luhrs Center Box Office at 717-477-SHOW (7469) or online at Luhrscenter.com.
