After 10 years as Shippensburg University’s Greek Life Adviser, Emilee Danielson-Burke, more commonly known among students as E-Dan, has accepted a new position and will be relocating at the end of this semester.

Since accepting her position at SU, she has come to love and respect Greek Life more than when she was in college.

She has loved having the opportunity to mentor the young men and women of Greek organizations, while also learning that Greek Life is more than just a four year experience.

Danielson first came to here when former Greek Advisor Jeff Hill informed her that he was leaving and suggested she apply for the position. When she came to SU, she instantly fell in love with being in a bigger community with a small town feel.

Danielson’s first goal as the new Greek Life Advisor was to do something about the amount of chapters on campus that were unrecognized by their nationals. She reached out to organizations like Theta Kappa, now Kappa Beta Gamma, and helped them charter.

Her next goal was to rebuild the officer structure of Greek life. She emphasized the importance of community service among the organizations and altered the recruitment process to better fit Panhellenic guidelines. But most importantly, she encouraged members of different organizations to work together on events and collaborate more.

“It doesn’t matter which letters you wear, we’re all on the same team,” Danielson said.

She hopes that whoever takes her position will keep that in mind and will always help those who ask for it, while encouraging and empowering students to make good decisions.

“It’s really bittersweet to be leaving,” Danielson said. “Thanks everyone for a great 10 years. But it’s time to see what the future holds.”

She will miss everyone as she takes on her next journey in life, but reminds them that she will always be there for those who reach out to her.
