The Shippensburg University women’s lacrosse team hopped on a bus to battle against PSAC adversary Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) on Saturday, March 26.

In PSAC action, the Raiders were unable to come out on top as they fell to an impressive national contending IUP squad, 17-5.

In the first half of play, Shippensburg was able to score two goals, one by freshman Morgan Stone and the other by senior Tanisha Joseph. IUP ripped nine goals in the first half, making a statement early on.

Unfortunately, as the game progressed, the Raiders failed to overcome the evermore insurmountable lead that suffocated Shippensburg’s defense.

The Raiders only scored three goals in the second half, in contrast to IUP’s eight-goal half.

The three goals for Shippensburg came from junior Ali Harclerode, sophomore Allison Fugate and freshman Kyra Shank.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior Annemarie Cericola obtained three turnovers for the second game in a row. Her defensive efforts continue to keep Shippensburg in tight contests and she has accumulated 31 ground balls over seven games, which ranks her second in the PSAC for ground balls thus far this season.

Two Raiders shared the net over the course of the game, senior Ally Frymoyer and freshman Aly Danick. The great speed and athleticism in goal continues to keep the Raiders competitive despite a highly competitive PSAC conference.

Frymoyer was able to save six shots on goal and obtained three groundballs during her play in the first half. Her counterpart, Danick, had three saves in her second half involvement.

The next game for the Raiders will be a return home for PSAC action on Tuesday, March 29 at 4 p.m. against Millersville University.
