February 20th 2016, Game 1

Shippensburg University traveled to face the Catawba University Indians in a triple feature in North Carolina this past weekend.

SU managed to outhit the Indians on day one 7-6, but could not turn those hits into runs. Catawba opened the scoring with a three-run home run by Will Robertson. SU scored its only run in the eighth inning with an RBI single by Austin Allison. Catawba tallied three more runs, making the final score 6-1. Marcus Shippey (1-2) took the loss for SU, while Shaefer Shepard (2-1) got the win for the Catawba.

February 20th 2016, Game 2

SU could not bounce back, losing 11-2 in Game 2. SU only managed four hits to Catawba’s 11. Catawba hit five home runs in the first five innings. Austin Allison tallied another RBI with a double in the fourth inning. Ryan McMillen also tallied a RBI in the fourth inning. Mark Curtis (0-1) took the loss for SU, while Russ Weiker (2-1) got the win for Catawba.

February 21st 2016

After a lack of offense the first two days, Shippensburg turned the tide, taking the last game in the weekend series 8-5. SU’s bats were alive for the first four innings, scoring six runs. In the span of those runs, two were home runs by Mike Marcinko and Dalton Hoiles. SU managed to outhit Catawba 11-9, turning those hits into eight runs. Catawba tried to make a comeback but fell short, only scoring five runs. Rich Michaud (1-1) picked up the win for SU, while Connor Johnson (0-1) took the loss for Catawba. Josh Kutchey recorded his third save of the season in the victory. SU walked out of the series with a 3-4 record. The next series is against UNC Pembroke on February 27th and 28th and then SU is home for a weekend battle against Le Moyne University on March 5th-6th.
