On Friday, Nov. 20, the Thought Lot hosted the Annual Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO) Art and Pie Auction. CCO is an evangelical campus ministry organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Its main mission is to help students fill the gap between what is happening on campus and what is happening in the community through worship.

Matt Ramsay, the orchestrator of this year’s auction, expressed his concern with the rising numbers of students dropping out of school due to home sickness. He hopes to decrease the number by hosting events like the auction in the Shippensburg community for students to become more acclimated and enjoy their time here.

The Art and Pie Auction had over four dozen pies to be auctioned off or put into a competition to be judged on taste, texture, filling, crust and creativity. Apple pies, fruit, nut, pumpkin and cream pies were available. There were over 70 pieces of art work to be auctioned off, as well, including paintings, drawings, photos and furniture, many done by SU students.

Throughout the night, there were light refreshments, music and activities for children to participate in, like spin art and henna tattoos. Many local organizations donated prizes to be raffled off. Kathy’s Dinner donated a $20 gift card; Pizza Hut offered two free large pizzas; Planet Fitness provided a shirt with a three month membership; A Little Contrast offered various free photo sessions and Ace Music offered two free lessons.

Overall the night was filled with the sweet smell of pie, lovely artwork, good people and a great reason to raise money.
