The Shippensburg University field hockey team used a late game goal from Kendall Beck to slide past Kutztown University on Wednesday night from Andre Reed Stadium.

Beck notched her second goal of the season off a shot from the middle of the circle that squeezed passed the KU goalie. The goal marks Beck’s second game winner of her career.

The Raiders (6-1, 1-0 PSAC) jumped out to an early lead to start the game when freshman Brook Zeiders tipped in a pass from junior Katelyn Grazan. The goal marks Zeiders’ third of the season.

The Golden Bears (4-3, 1-1 PSAC) bounced back 15 minutes later when Morgan Aldinger converted a penalty stroke.

Grazan notched SU’s second goal after she deflected a well-placed, back-handed pass from sophomore Emily Barnard. The goal is Grazan’s second of the year.

KU tried to mount a late comeback when Anna Behm scored her 10th goal of the season, but SU’s defense stepped up when needed.

SU senior goalkeeper Taylor Webster made four saves in 70 minutes of work.

The Raiders offense used extensive amounts of pressure to break the KU defense. SU fired 23 shots in the contest, 15 of which were on goal.

KU goalkeeper, Kayla Denlinger, made 11 saves on the night.

The Raiders will return to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Indiana University of Pa. in a 1 o’clock matchup.
