The SU men’s soccer team started their 2015 season Thursday with a solid victory over the Felician Golden Falcons. The game marked the start of eight player’s college careers including freshman goalkeeper Matt Harder, who kept the Golden Falcons off the scoreboard in his debut performance.

Despite the 2015 team being very young, the Red Raider upperclassmen were responsible for the offense. Team veterans put up all three goals to lead the team to victory. For the first forty minutes, there was no scoring until junior forward Robert Furfaro was fouled in the box. Senior midfielder Derek Adams converted the penalty kick putting the Raiders on the board. Later in the half Furfaro was fouled again and Adams prepared to take another penalty kick. This time the shot was blocked, however Furfaro was right there to put it back on the rebound.

With a 2-0 lead at the half, the Red Raiders were outshooting the Golden Falcons 15-5 and continued to do so in the second period finishing with a lopsided 31-8 lead in shots. The third and final goal was scored on an impressive header by senior forward James Connor. The play started with an inbound pass by sophomore Colt Arnold that Connor was able to play off his head for the final score of the afternoon.

The Red Raiders continue their season on Saturday against fellow PSAC conference member East Stroudsburg.
