“Avengers: Age of Ultron” review

Warning: Spoiler Alert!

Opening with $191 million this weekend, it is no wonder many walked away from “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with large grins and excited chatter about Marvel’s upcoming movies, and this fan was no exception.

Walking into the theater, the seats were packed. Patrons were trying to get their first look at the new “Avengers,” many adorning their Avengers gear, ranging from Captain America, Thor and Iron Man to all the Avengers.

Sitting and waiting excitedly, chatter ensued about what would happen to the Avengers, ranging from rumors to outrageous theories. Some even discussed what the new movies were going to be about, but all was silenced once the movie began.

The movie starts out with the Avengers fighting Hydra to get to Loki’s scepter, but things do not go as planned. Two new characters, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch), show Tony Stark’s (Iron Man) worst fear.

This sets him off on a mission to create a program which assesses threats and eliminates them. While Bruce Banner (the Hulk) is apprehensive about not telling the team, he and Stark work on the program, using the scepter’s technology to create the program.

The only problem is, the Ultron program goes rouge and kills J.A.R.I.V.S., Stark’s AI program. Ultron then hops through the Internet, takes over some of Stark’s robots and the scepter and sets out on a mission to destroy the Avengers, as well as humanity, in general. He is bent on creating a new species of humans.

Ultron, Marvel’s newest movie villain, is reminiscent of Loki. He has dry humor, with a touch of completely insane rage. This was highlighted when he was called a toy of Stark. He angrily retorts that he is nothing like Stark.

The rest of the movie focuses on creating deeper character developments of Avengers, such as Clint Barton (Hawkeye) and Natasha Romanova (Black Widow), who is romantically involved with Banner. A side plot also surfaces, setting the stage for “Civil War.”

It was annoying that there was a romance between Banner and Romanova. It felt unnecessary, but it was interesting to see her backstory.

The biggest reveal of the movie was that Barton had a family, outside of the Avengers. The interactions between him and his wife were some of the most sincere moments and the most adorable.

All of this and the additional characters, such as Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and another that I will leave unnamed, makes “Avengers: Age of Ultron” one of the most interesting and fun Marvel movies, and a great way to kick off the summer box office hits.
