The food truck that became a restaurant: Polly and Stone review

When I went to Polly and Stone this past Friday, I was not really sure what to expect,

besides burritos. And there were burritos. Really, really good burritos.

Polly and Stone is not a sit-down-with-a-menu-type restaurant. Instead, you walk up to

counter, place your order and they bring your food out to you, which harkens back to the

food truck on Richard Street, where the restaurant grew out of and still runs.

I ordered one of their regular burritos, which comes with ground beef, beans, cheese and

sour cream. It was about as big as my clenched fist, maybe an inch or two longer, and it

was delicious. The price certainly did not hurt, either. A regular burrito will only run you

about $3.45. Bottled drinks are two dollars and water is a buck, so a meal for two people

is easily under $15.

However, Polly and Stone does not just offer their regular burritos, but their “Stone’s Big

Burrito,” as well. It is about one and a half times the size of the regular burrito. The “Big

Burrito” has lettuce and salsa, too, and runs about $5.45. For those of you that do not eat

meat, they offer a veggie burrito for the same price as the regular. There is also pizza,

Stromboli, quesadillas, nachos and pretzels on the menu. Polly and Stone even has a

pretzel of the day, updated on the blackboard, by the counter.

The atmosphere of restaurant is kind of quiet, but that might just have been the time that I

was there. The lights are turned down low. It feels nice, to be honest. It feels like the

owners want you to be there, not just to order something, get it and go.

I have to say, I enjoyed my experience, very much. The staff was friendly, helpful and

answered any questions I might have had, whether it was about the food or the restaurant,

itself. The food is monetarily cheap, but do not let that fool you – it is delicious and the

portions are large enough to be filling, in my opinion. While there is not much of a choice

of drinks (just Snapple, RC Cola, Frozen Run Birch Beer and Squirt, which was a type of

lemon lime soda), I suspect that will grow as the restaurant, itself, picks up. That is not to

say that I think they should install a soda fountain, just that their selection of bottled

drinks could be a little larger.

If I had to give a number of stars in review, I would give Polly and Stone five stars out of

five. I would also encourage anyone in Shippensburg, who loves good food or good

burritos, to go check this place out.
