The Shippensburg University women’s cross country team placed third last Saturday at the PSAC Cross Country Championships at Mansfield’s Lamb’s Creek, with one Raider claiming an All-PSAC finish and seven cracking the top 40.
During last Saturday’s race, which included crisp autumn weather, the Raiders were led by freshman Lizzie Manickas, who placed 12th and ran an 18-second personal record of 22:08 on the six-kilometer course. Behind Manickas was sophomore Natalie Eastwood, who finished 25th with a time of 22:50, just nine seconds short of her PR.
Despite having struggled with injury this season, sophomore Casey Norton finished one second and one position behind Eastwood. Claiming the last two scoring spots for the Raiders were freshman Bryanna Dissinger and junior Jessica Collins. Dissinger placed 31st, running a time of 22:56, while Collins finished 33rd, running 23:04.
The last two Raiders to claim top-40 positions were freshman Sarah Latch and senior April Schlusser. Latch placed 35th, running a time of 23:08, while Schlusser, one spot behind Latch, ran 23:10.
Rounding out the field for the Raiders were sophomore Allison Marella (46th, 23:18,) sophomore Erika Huffman (55th, 23:31), and freshman Emily Kachik (66th, 23:55).
The Raiders will head to Slippery Rock in two weeks for the 2014 NCAA Atlantic Region Championships, where they seek to place in the top three for a trip to the national meet in Louisville, KY.
