Heading into the post-season on a strong note, the Shippensburg University men’s cross country team placed second at the PSAC Cross Country Championships at Mansfield’s Lamb’s Creek on Saturday, putting five men in the top 17 spots.

Leading the Raiders through Lamb Creek’s ideal, flat course was senior Brayden Burleigh, who placed second with a time of 24:42, the first sub-25:00 8K he has run as a Raider. Coming through big for the Raiders after Burleigh was junior Austin McGinley, who placed eighth with a time of 25:00, a 34-second personal record.

Following Austin was senior Peter Gelston, placing 15th and claiming his first All-PSAC finish with a 21-second PR of 25:17. Finishing right behind Gelston were Shippensburg’s last scorers of the day, sophomore Kieran Sutton and freshman Cole Nissley. Sutton placed 16th and ran a a 16-second PR of 25:19, while Nissley placed 17th with a five second PR of 25:20.

Not far behind, placing 28th-30th, were junior Ryan Spangler, sophomore Braden Bruning and freshman Alex Balla. Spangler ran a time of 25:45, while Bruning and Balla ran 25:49 and 25:50.

Rounding out the field for Shippensburg were junior Chris Mullin and sophomore Harrison Schettler. Mullin, who placed 42nd, ran a time of 26:17, while Schettler, running 26:41, placed 47th.

The Raiders will be heading to Slippery Rock in two weeks for the 2014 NCAA Atlantic Region Championships, where they will be seeking a top-three finish, which will be good for a berth at the national meet in Louisville, KY.
