Meet Sarah Eyd

The managing editor for The Slate.

Sarah Eyd describes her position as managing editor leading five sections and the staff of the sections.

The Slate uses Adobe InDesign to format the pages for every week’s publication. When the section editors are finished designing the pages, they submit the pages to the managing editor.

“I edit it, with a red pen. I go through and check for everything from spelling, grammar, fact errors, AP style. But I also do a little visual editing” Eyd said.

One of Sarah’s favorite things about being a member of the Slate is being able to work with other students who have an interest in writing or students who are a part of the Communication/Journalism department of Shippensburg University.

Sarah is also has the responsibility of treasurer of the Slate. She handles the annual budget the Slate receives every year, and has to file paper work every time something is purchased for the Slate.

“We have advertisers sign contracts with us. I have to make sure all of the checks come in; all of the checks get to the fiscal office. Anytime we spend money I have to fill out an expenditure request, that says exactly where our money’s going,” Eyd said.
