Another close game of competition for the Women’s soccer team saw the Lady Raiders fall 1-0 on a score in the final 90 seconds on Tuesday evening against West Chester. With the possibility of playoffs coming close to out of reach, the team put up a tough fight against the 10-1 Golden Rams.

With five saves total on goal, freshman Kayla Kennedy put up an impressive fight against the Rams’ offense. With the game remaining scoreless at the half, Shippensburg’s offense attempted 4 shots on goal for the duration of the game. A great effort from freshman Mallory Patterson came 28 minutes into completion as she booted one inside the box. WCU goalie Alex Srolis made an impressive save, adding another shutout to her statistics. Senior Brooke Clippinger took a chance 56 minutes into competition that sent a cross towards goal that came just shy of the net. The most successful effort came from Rams Senior Carly Yost, when she scored with just 90 seconds left in the game just out of Kennedy’s reach.

“Although we didn’t get the result, the team played one of its best games together. As long as we carry our momentum from this game through the rest of the season, there is no doubt in my mind that we will break into a playoff position,” confidently stated Senior Brooke Clippinger.

Fellow teammate and Senior captain Carolyn Smith added, “It’s frustrating because we played so well against a great team.”

The Raiders showed great determination and certainly held the Rams for a majority of the game. With a lot on the line, the Raiders will face East Stroudsburg University Saturday evening to secure their spot in playoffs this season.
