With thousands of Shippensburg University students, faculty and alumni watching excitedly, Nicole Nicholson and Brandon Bord were crowned Homecoming Queen and King.

At half-time during Saturday’s football game against the Cheyney Wolves, this year’s Homecoming Court took to the field while the marching band performed around them.

The court included: Jackie Hubbard and Allen Koederitz, first runners up; Lucy Davis and Tyler Graham, second runners up; Laura O’Donnell and Charlito Iwaugwu, third runners up and Emily Larsen and Josh Ebright, fourth runners up.

Former Queen and King, Sarah Maize and Joey Bucher were ready to crown their successors.

Maize described her experience as queen as “wonderful.” She was enthusiastic at the idea of recognizing another student who was just as involved as she had been.

Bucher was just as excited to pass the torch to his fraternity brother, Bord. “It’s 30 years in a row of Kappa Sigma brothers having been Homecoming King,” he said. “I think that’s really special.”

When asked how she felt when she was the last person to have her name called, Nicholson says she was shaky. “When we were walking on the field, I wasn’t nervous at all,” she said. “My body told me otherwise.”

Nicholson was thrilled to have been selected. She explained that Shippensburg left its mark on her and helped her to break out of her shell, and she is honored to now represent all the best things about SU’s student body.

Bord was relieved, excited and proud of all of his colleagues for meeting two-thirds of their fundraising goal.

This year, the Homecoming Court raised money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Shippensburg and Chambersburg, an after-school organization that provides equal opportunity education for children from low-income families. Nicholson raised $1,456 for the organization, and Brandon Bord raised $1,324. All together, the homecoming committee has raised $10,450.79 for the Boys and Girls Club so far,but intends to continue fundraising through November.

The Homecoming Court will participate in the Shippensburg Borough’s Dickens Day Parade on Nov. 21.
