The tough loss over winter break against ESU definitely fueled the Shippensburg University women’s basketball team Wednesday night. They were out for revenge.

Another nail-biting game took place as the Raiders defeated East Stroudsburg University 80-71.

The dynamic-duo of Stephanie Knauer and Morgan Griffith ran the court for the Raiders against ESU. Sloppy play in the first half led to the Raiders leading 37-33 at half.

Luckily, after an intense locker room chat, the Raiders came out in the second half ready to go.

Each rotation of girls that Coach Trn subbed into the game, were ready to play. The other post-players, Shaniece Jackson, Haley Scullion and Lauren Barnett all provided great strength down low.

Knauer and Griffith worked their way back into the game in the second half and helped the team make a jump to a strong 12-point lead with 15 minutes remaining in the second half.

Sarah Strybuc, Lauren Gold and Knauer all contributed double-digit point totals for the Raiders.

With about nine minutes left in the game, Knauer and Griffith were both taken out with four fouls.

“I think that we matched up well with ESU and that we proved that we are the better team,” Gold said. “Although Steph and Morgan were in foul trouble, we still all played hard, and the other post players stepped up when we needed them.”

The Raiders look to pick up another crucial victory when they travel to West Chester University on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
