The 2013 volleyball season is a historical one for the Shippensburg University Raiders. SU has collected 28 wins and suffered only nine losses.

On Dec. 4, Jill Edwards and Maura Nolan added to an already historic season when they received honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Edwards was named to the All-Atlantic Region Squad along with first team honors from Daktronics Inc., while Nolan earned an honorable mention spot in the ACVA poll.

Edwards, a 5-foot, 11-inch senior from Raleigh, N.C. notched her second-straight All-Atlantic region first team spot and her second-straight honor from Daktronics after having a stellar season so far.

Through 35 games, Edwards has notched a team-leading 538 kills along with 402 digs and 59 total blocks. Edwards’ 538 kills rank her top in the PSAC and No. 12 in all of Division II.

Nolan, a 5-foot, 8-inch freshman from Wexford, Pa. earned her first-ever AVCA honorable mention spot for her role as setter.

The North Allegheny High School graduate has totaled a team-leading 1,251 assists in 37 games, notching her at No. 6 in the PSAC and No. 75 in all of Division II.

Nolan has also recorded 252 digs, 78 total blocks and 60 kills throughout her first season in a Raider uniform.

Edwards and Nolan are just two reasons why the Raiders are making their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and third in school history.

Edwards, Nolan and the rest of the Raider squad gear up to take on University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown this evening at 5 p.m. in Wheeling, W.V.
