Garrie Grenfell is a sophomore at Shippensburg University and is majoring in Communication/Journalism with an emphasis is in Public Relations. She is also a member of Shippensburg University’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

PRSSA has seven different committees for members to be on and last semester Grenfell was on the promotions committee. On April 14, she helped with the second annual Kupcakes for Kris 5K run and walk on campus.

The Communication/Journalism Department hosted the 2013 C/J Day on April 9. Many students in the department were recognized for their hard work throughout the semester during the banquet that evening.

Grenfell received the Wolfrom Award in Journalism for excellence in Journalism. The award is named after Kenneth Wolfrom. His family owned the News-Chronicle and Valley Times-Star for many years.

She was selected for this award by the departmental faculty. They choose students who show academic success and professional commitment for the awards given out.

Her interest in public relations came from older friends who are in the public relations field. Grenfell has also shadowed some of these friends and enjoyed time in the field.

Grenfell plans to declare a minor in business as well. Having prior knowledge from high school classes, she feels that business and public relations tie together well and can help her in the future.

On top of school work, Grenfell plays lacrosse for the Lady Raiders. Being an athlete keeps her on a better time schedule especially in season.

With two years left in her college career, she is unsure of her future career, but considers the thoughts of working for a non-profit organization of a large company.
