Another day, another victory for the Shippensburg University women’s basketball team as it took down Kutztown University 72–63 on Wednesday night from Keystone Arena.

Dana Wert netted a team-high 17 points while freshman sensation Stephanie Knauer contributed 12 points and eight rebounds in a victory that put SU in a tie for first place in the PSAC East with Bloomsburg University.

SU shot the lights out in the first half, converting on 56 percent of its shots. Knauer and Wert netted 18 of the team’s 41 points as the Raiders took a 41–30 lead into the break.

The Raiders exploded out of the gate in the second half as they went on an electrifying 13–2 run — seven of those points coming from Wert. The Raiders went on to outscore the Golden Bears 29–16 in the first 15 minutes of the half to build a 24-point advantage.

However, KU fought back late. Led by a plethora of Golden Bears, KU chipped away at the deficit and kept the Raiders off the scoreboard for the last 4:48 of the game. Unfortunately it was too little too late for KU as the nine-point deficit was the closest it got to the Raiders’ stranglehold of the lead.

Caitlyn Deeter led all bench scorers with 12 points. Raediah Lyles also scored in double-digits finishing the game with 11 points. The two will look to perform well as SU looks forward to a PSAC clash with BU next week.

With the BU loss, SU is now tied for first with the Huskies in the PSAC East. SU travels to Mansfield University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest before it returns home with a Wednesday night clash against the Huskies.
