The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team has been less than perfect this season, to say the least. However, SU was able to put up a near perfect performance against PSAC rival Kutztown University as four players registered in double digits, propelling the Raiders to a 70-66 victory on Wednesday night.
Sophomore guard Sam Pygatt led the Raiders in scoring with 20 points in SU’s 70-66 win. Junior center Dylan Edgar put up 17 points while Reggie Charles recorded 13 along with seven assists. Tyheim Perrin added 12 points for the Raiders, a team who saw their four-game losing streak come to a close with the victory.
The Raiders shot 65 percent from the field, 50 percent from outside the arc and 100 percent from the charity stripe in the first half of the game. SU’s numbers dropped after the half, only shooting 36 percent from the field. The Raiders shot a mere 33 percent from three point range, and shot 70 percent from the free throw line.
With the win, the Raiders stand at 5-15 overall and 3-13 in PSAC play. The Golden Bears fall to 5-17 overall and 4-12 in conference play. SU will look to stay on the winning side of things when they take on a struggling Mansfield University in Decker Gymnasium Saturday at 3 p.m. The Raiders return home to host Bloomsburg University on January 13th at 8 p.m.
