SU faces critical test against Bloomsburg tomorrow night

The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team has a very tiny margin of error coming into Wednesday’s game. If the Raiders want to stay in playoff contention, they have to start with a home win against Bloomsburg University Wednesday at 8 p.m.

SU is backed into a corner when it comes to making the playoffs. Coming off a tough 66–74 loss to Mansfield University Saturday, the Raiders must beat Bloomsburg and one other team to make it into the PSAC playoffs. SU has a tough schedule coming up in the next three weeks. After the BU game, the Raiders face the Top 4 teams in the PSAC East to finish out the season.

Before SU can worry about the playoffs it must first get past the Huskies. BU is currently in the fifth spot of the PSAC East rankings, SU is currently last. If SU wants to come away with a victory, it will have to stop BU’s leading scorer Lorenzo Christmas. Christmas is currently averaging just over 16 points per game. The Raiders will also have to shut down Dontahe Jordan. Jordan is averaging 14 points per game along and has 26 steals on the season.

SU’s Dylan Edgar and Reggie Charles will have to stay productive if they want to beat BU. Edgar and Charles are both averaging just over 13 points per game. Edgar will need to be physical in the paint and finish at the bucket when he gets the chance. Charles will need to be sharp with his court vision and keep feeding his teammates the ball. Passing seems to be Charles’ strong point. Charles is currently leading the Raiders in assists with 93.

Look for SU’s Sam Pygatt to stay hot along with Tyhiem Perrin who tallied 28 total points in two games last week. SU’s bench will also be a key factor in Wednesday’s game. If the Raiders can stay focused, they will come away with a much-needed win. SU edges BU 70¬–65.
