Defeat previous champion: check

After a 40-minute lightning delay just 12 minutes into the game, goals from Taylor Bender and Bre White propelled the Shippensburg University field hockey team to a 3-0 win over the top-ranked West Chester University Golden Rams. After the lightning delay, the game resumed, and nine minutes later, Bender got the Raiders on the board when she connected with the back of the cage with an assist from Sam Langone, who caught the rebound in front of the cage off a missed strike from Bre White. Bender would score again in the start of the second half, her fourth of the season, with an unassisted goal.

Jump aboard the winning Ship

The Shippensburg University football team put up 41 points in the first half of Saturday’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover against Slippery Rock University — including three touchdowns in the final 4:24 before halftime, en route to a 55-35 victory over The Rock from SU Student Association Field at Seth Grove Stadium.

Raiders sailing toward 3-0

The Shippensburg University football team will head to East Stroudsburg University after two convincing wins against formidable opponents in Shepherd University and Slippery Rock University. The Raiders defeated Shepherd, 38-28, two weeks ago, its first win against the Rams since 2004.

Volleyball impresses at tourney

The Shippensburg University women’s volleyball team faced a solid set of opponents Saturday at the Minnesota Duluth Classic but fought hard and earned a split, rallying from a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Minnesota Crookston University to sweep Bemidji State University. SU dropped its first match of the day to the Golden Eagles by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-18.

SU offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich was hired by Oklahoma State to the same position earlier today.

Raiders win slugfest against Shepherd

The last seven years of defeat were finally erased as the Shippensburg University football team overcame a 28-17 halftime deficit en route to a convincing 38-28 victory against Shepherd University in the 15th Annual Great Valley Classic from Seth Grove Stadium on Saturday.

Field hockey No. 4 in Division II ranks

The Shippensburg University’s field hockey team has been putting on a clinic in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference the last few years and this year proves to be no exception. The field hockey team had a solid season last year, finishing with an undefeated 10-0 record against the PSAC and finishing 17-4 overall.

Intramural volleyball champions crowned

The men’s and women’s intramural volleyball championships were held on Sunday night at the Shippensburg University’s Recreational Center as team Puzzles and team Look Up looked to capture the men’s crown while team Balls of Fire and team Blair Hits Project duked it out for the a chance at the coveted intramural crown.

Spence gains sponsor

Neely Spence is changing courses in her running career; this time it is with her coach. Spence, a standout star on the Shippensburg University track-and-field team and medalist at the Pan-Am games, will move to Michigan to work under Keith and Kevin Hanson of the Hansons-Brooks Original Distance Project in Rochester Hills.
