Absence of parity should be a concern for the NBA

Another year, another season of revisited plots for the NBA. Ever watch the NBA, particularly the NBA finals, and think, “Hey, haven’t I seen this before?” If so, then you deserve kudos. It’s now been five consecutive years that LeBron James has appeared in the NBA finals.

Baseball scratched from PSAC Tourney after consecutive losses

The Raiders season came to an end after they were eliminated from the postseason after back-to-back losses to the Seton Hill Griffins and California Vulcans (PA) at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler, Pa. The Raiders dropped their first game 11-5 to California and were knocked out of the playoffs with their 9-3 loss to California.

Softball ends season with sweep of Mansfield

The softball team concluded its season on Saturday with a sweep of the Mansfield Mountaineers in an away matchup on Mansfield’s Hellen Lutes Field. Shippensburg (17-18) shut out Mansfield 9-0 in Game 1 and notched an 11-5 victory in Game 2.

Softball splits senior-day twin bill with Kutztown

The softball team kept its playoff dream alive on Friday after battling the Kutztown Golden Bears in a pair of games each decided by one run on Senior Day at Ship’s Robb Field. Shippensburg (15-18) edged Kutztown 3-2 in Game 1 before suffering a 7-6 loss in Game 2.

Bleacher Talk: SU ’14-’15 Athletes of the Year

While Bleacher Talk has normally been a debate column between our sports’ editors, but this week it has a different feel, as Dave and Cale each select the Shippensburg University ’14-’15 athletes of the year. This was a difficult decision because there were a number of team and individual performances that stood out in Red Raider athletics. Dave is tasked with selecting the best athlete among the male Red Raiders, while Cale will choose the best female athlete.

Red Raiders end regular season with split against WCU

As the Shippensburg University is preparing for the PSAC tournament, the team capped its regular season by hosting West Chester on Saturday for their regular season finale, splitting a doubleheader. In Game 1, SU started off strong when sophomore Jake Kennedy doubled to center field, scoring senior Jimmy Spanos.

SU splits Senior Day doubleheader vs. West Chester

The Shippensburg University Red Raiders hosted West Chester University for a Senior Day doubleheader on Friday, dropping the opener 5-4, but taking the nightcap, 7-3. Sophomore Jake Kennedy tied and broke the SU home run record in a single season in consecutive at-bats during Game One, passing Todd Melisauskas, who was drafted by the Dodgers and inducted into the SU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. Despite Kennedy’s performance, it wasn’t enough offense, as West Chester scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning. In Game 2, SU was able to beat WCU pitcher Nick Stallings for his first loss of the season, chasing him after he was unable to get an out in the third inning.

Red Raiders split doubleheader with Rams

The Shippensburg University Red Raiders hosted the Shepherd Rams for a doubleheader on Tuesday, splitting a pair of non-conference games. In Game 1, the Rams shut out the Red Raiders behind a strong performance from Rams pitcher Sam Crater threw five scoreless innings to earn his ninth win of the season.

The Shippensburg University baseball team clinched a playoff spot on April 18, but did not know who they would face in round one of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament. On April 25 the Raiders (25-23, 17-11 PSAC) learned that they will face Seton Hill University, the No.

McMillen hits game-winner as baseball qualifies for playoffs

The SU baseball team clinched a PSAC Tournament berth on Saturday by splitting a double header with rival Bloomsburg University (11-17). SU (22-20) took the opener by a score of 8-5 before dropping the nightcap to the Huskies, 18-9. The Red Raiders fell behind early in Game 1, but were able to bring the score to 5-5 in the fifth inning.

Bleacher Talk: Baseball playoff outlook

With one swing, Raider baseball clinched a spot in the 2015 PSAC playoffs in a double-header on Saturday, after missing the tournament last season. Sophomore Ryan McMillen sent a solo shot out of the park for a game-winning home run in the sixth inning, ensuring a win against Bloomsburg and securing a playoff berth. Prior to 2014, Shippensburg had recorded two consecutive 32-win seasons, winning the Division II College World Series in 2013.
