In conjunction with the Shippensburg University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Shippensburg University Athletics Department will host a wish reveal for a local child through Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Northern Delaware and Susquehanna Valley on Wednesday night. SU will be hosting rival Bloomsburg University in a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader on Wednesday.
Star soccer player Lionel Messi scored his 300th career goal in the Spanish football league last week, becoming the first player to ever reach that mark in La Liga. Messi also scored another goal later on in the same match, which was against fellow Spanish club Sporting Gijon.

The women’s basketball team bounced back from its loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East cellar-dweller Cheyney University with a 64-55 win over Lock Haven University last Wednesday night at Heiges Field House. The game was close for a majority of the night, but the ladies capitalized on a big fourth quarter in which they outscored the Bald Eagles 21-11 to secure the victory.
The men’s basketball team continued their winning ways last Wednesday as a late run propelled the Raiders to an 83 – 69 win over PSAC East foe Lock Haven University. The Raiders paced themselves throughout the night, maintaining control of the lead from the 15-minute mark of the first half until the end of the game.
February 20th 2016, Game 1 Shippensburg University traveled to face the Catawba University Indians in a triple feature in North Carolina this past weekend.
The weekend of Feb. 18-21 saw the Shippensburg University men’s swim team compete in the four-day Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship at the Graham Aquatic Center. Senior Jake Dunnigan led the way on Day 1 of PSACs with a 13th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (IM). Senior Stefan Szilagyi followed close behind with a 16th-place finish in the same race.

As the end of the 2015-2016 wrestling season slowly draws near, wrestlers across the nation prepare for the second leg of their journeys — the postseason. For the Red Raiders, the road will take them to Erie, Pennsylvania, to battle at the NCAA Super Region I Championships for Division II.
In the NFL, there are many great athletes and talents that play the game well. Yet in the past offseason, two of the best players in the entire league decided to hang up the cleats: Calvin Johnson, wide receiver for the Detroit Lions and Marshawn Lynch, running back for the Seattle Seahawks, two of the best at their respective positions. Calvin Johnson has totaled over 700 plus receptions, 11,000 plus yards receiving and 80 plus touchdowns over his great nine-year career.
As an illustrious career comes to an end, Kobe Bryant deserves to be celebrated. Fittingly enough, in a season where Bryant has only averaged 16.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, he was awarded the opportunity to start the final NBA All-Star game of his career on Sunday night. Bryant has been one of the key faces of professional basketball for the last 19 years and his resume includes five NBA Championships, two NBA Finals MVP Awards, an NBA MVP Award, four NBA All-Star Game MVP Awards and 18 NBA All-Star Game appearances.
Spring is often a time for new beginnings. For Shippensburg University’s 2016 softball team, this definitely holds true. Last season, the Raiders softball team went 17-18 and finished with a 12-16 PSAC record.
Shippensburg University’s baseball team made the long trip to North Carolina over the weekend to open its season with doubleheaders against Belmont Abbey University and Wingate University. The Raiders split both doubleheaders on the weekend.
Men’s basketball Shippensburg 87, Millersville 70 The Shippensburg men’s basketball team rolled past Millersville University, 87-70, Wednesday night while the athletic department held its annual “Play 4 Kay” event at Heiges Field House. The Marauders were able to match the Raiders’ intensity early on and even found themselves down by just one possession with a few minutes left in the first half. A pair of three’s from Antonio Kellem gave Shippensburg a more comfortable 39-31 lead at the half. In the second half the Raiders were able to pull away from the Marauders on the shoulders of some impressive offense. By shooting 45 percent from the field and out-rebounding the Marauders 42-28, the Raiders ran away with a game that was once a close matchup.
Shippensburg University’s men’s basketball team finished off the week with a win against Cheyney University on Saturday, Feb.
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown traveled to the home gym of Heiges Field House to take on the Shippensburg University Red Raiders in PSAC action. The evening was Shippensburg’s senior night, in which it congratulated its seniors on their wrestling and academic careers at the university.

Cam Newton was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player on Feb. 6th, one day before playing the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. Ever since the Carolina Panthers drafted Cam Newton back in 2011, there have been a large number of both critics and fans who have questioned whether or not Newton could be the face of a franchise and lead a team to a championship. Newton dazzled fans everywhere as he and the Panthers decimated the NFL this season.
