The Shippensburg University men’s soccer team lost 1-0 in a close battle with West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon. The visiting Bobcats scored the only goal of the evenly-matched game in the 28th minute on a diving header by midfielder Paul Smith.
The Shippensburg Men’s soccer team was defeated by Gannon this past Saturday, resulting in the Raiders’ fourth straight loss. The visiting Golden Knights notched the first score of the day in the 23rd minute with a goal by Sergio Kobowane.
The Red Raiders capped a miraculous comeback against the East Stroudsburg Warriors, converting a two-point conversion in the fifth overtime to finalize the score at 69-67. Quarterback Ryan Zapoticky found receiver Jordan Harro in the back of the end zone for the finishing touches on the game, which was the longest in SU football history.
The Red Raiders split two of the team’s first games at the PSAC Crossover 1 on Friday. The Raiders beat host Mercyhurst University in three straight sets with scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-17.

Senior receiver Sheldon Mayer gave the team the spark it needed as he returned a punt for an 82 yard score with 6:38 left in the third.
