Four other PASSHE schools face per credit programs

A possible tuition increase looms over the heads of Shippensburg University students who take more than 12 credits, but SU students are not alone — four other Pennsylvania universities are facing a similar future: Bloomsburg University (BU), Clarion University (CU), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and Millersville University (MU).

SU celebrates Mardi Gras for fundraiser

A night of food, dancing and charity kicked off on Feb. 17 to celebrate Mardi Gras and raise money for a project to help the Haitian people. The newly formed Klub Kreyol and the French Club hosted the fourth annual Mardi Gras Ball in the Cora I.

Cecil Howard hired as new social equity director

Coming from the sunshine state of Florida, Cecil Howard hoped to be the social equity director at Shippensburg University — not for the enjoyment of Pennsylvania winter, but for the numerous possibilities that SU could present. “When I saw what was before me, I said, ‘Wow,’” Howard said.

Congress debates military action against IS

Only five miles from Ayn al-Asad military base, a U.S. training site for Iraqi soldiers, militants of the Islamic State group (IS, ISIL or ISIS) captured a town that has been subject to numerous skirmishes, according to The New York Times (NYT). IS soldiers, numbering in the hundreds, attacked the town al-Baghdadi in two directions, according to Reuters and Fox News.

SU geography professors receive $1 million research grant

Shippensburg University professors received a $1 million grant to study the Delaware River Basin. Shippensburg University professors Claire Jantz and Scott Drzyzga will use the money to fund a project that will map and analyze land use in the Delaware River Basin.
