Student Spotlight: Pierce Romey’s evolution of self-expression

(02/27/24 5:00pm)

When Pierce Romey arrived at Shippensburg University in 2020, he was unsure of what career he wanted to pursue. Now as he prepares to graduate, he expresses himself as an editor, an actor and a fashion icon of our campus. As one of the last Theatre minors at Shippensburg, Romey discussed how his theatre and English courses helped to develop his identity during his career.

Slowly But Shively: Grateful for Mean

(02/20/24 5:33pm)

A recent guilty pleasure of mine has been investing in ABC’s “The Bachelor” series. I’m not proud of enjoying a show that does not pass the Bechdel test, but at the end of a long Monday, it can be fun to set my own worries aside and indulge in some catty drama with a side of hunky tennis player.

Super Bowl LVIII: Dressed to Impress

(02/20/24 5:07pm)

The NFL Super Bowl is one of the most awaited and celebrated events in the American annual calendar. It is a combination of the most popular interests within the country — sports, music, military, fashion, fame, food and production. Though all of these interests are equally as important, one of the most aesthetically pleasing interests is fashionability. Obviously.

(02/13/24 8:10pm)

In honor of Black History Month, members of the community gathered in the Ceddia Union Building to learn about the importance of sermon and song at the WITF Gospel preview screening and discussion on Thursday night. Fashionably Slate: Romanticizing your outfits

(02/13/24 8:03pm)

Valentine’s Day: a day that’s filled with glitz and glamor. Though we often associate Valentine’s Day with partners, romantic relationships and gift-giving, there are plenty of other positives to the holiday. With that being said, whether you’re single or in a relationship, Valentine’s Day will always have your back in terms of fashion. Who doesn’t enjoy being impressionable?

Fashionably Slate: Majorly Cool

(02/06/24 8:14pm)

People around the world dress differently. There are many factors that play into the fact that others may dress dissimilarly to how we dress, including religion, gender, identity, personality, interests, and emotion.

Slowly but Shively: It’s time to go

(02/06/24 5:00pm)

As Kim Cattrall once said in an interview with The Guardian: “I don’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where I’m not enjoying myself.” Also, as the great Serena Van Der Woodsen once said, "I have to go."

Slowly But Shively: Amends

(01/31/24 5:00am)

Recently, I found myself in a situation where I had an opportunity to apologize to someone for a mistake I had made. I have said “I’m sorry” plenty of times in my life, but this instance was different. It was a thousand times more nerve-wracking because this time I knew it was not guaranteed that I would be forgiven.

Fashionably Slate: Popular Culture vs. Fashion

(01/30/24 7:10pm)

Fashion is inevitably inspired by popular culture. Wherever popular culture exists is where we will exist. It is truly a magical thought that everything is survived by each other. Rather than popular culture being seen as corrupt or unimportant, I enjoy looking at it as the way each person individually becomes a part of something larger: connection. In a world like ours, the only way we will ever have peace is to live within each other – while still being independent.

2024: What is “in” in Ship?

(01/23/24 10:00pm)

The 2024 spring semester has just started, and after winter break, I am sure many of us are ready to be back. When moving back into my residence hall, I realized that I had a lot of items that were new, either from the holidays or just from home. I started thinking about what we are going to see here on campus this spring. What clothes are popular? Accessories? Water bottles? I am here to try and predict the answers to these questions.

Supercharged: Panera’s lemonade surges concern across U.S.

(01/23/24 9:49pm)

Sarah Baus (@sarahebaus) ordered a new type of lemonade at Panera Bread before completing her work in the restaurant. After getting a few free refills of the drink while completing her tasks, she realized she was feeling extremely energetic and wondered what she was drinking. After checking the nutritional facts, she discovered she had been consuming more than twice the FDA recommended caffeine intake.

Slowly But Shively: Resolutions

(01/23/24 9:40pm)

It’s a new year and a perfect opportunity for a new start. It’s refreshing for me to be back writing this column once again. I took a break from writing this advice column because I felt like I was the last person who should be soliciting advice.

Cats on Campus: The Tale of an ESA

(12/05/23 5:00pm)

A lot of students with mental and physical health issues benefit from having an ESA that lives with them. A lot of misconceptions exist about ESAs, however. Aren’t they just pets? How can they actually help students?

Fashionably Slate: Will it function?

(12/05/23 5:00pm)

Here’s a point of view: Your alarm goes off. You walk to the closet after a long night of sleep, and you find a pair of jeans that you just bought and have been so excited to wear. You put together an outfit and you’re running late, so you grab your backpack and try to slide your phone into the back pocket of your jeans – until you realize there isn’t one, and your phone falls to the floor.
