Shippensburg University’s student media kicked off October in a victorious fashion — specifically Shippensburg’s very own TV station, SUTV News. Members of the student-produced news station traveled to Philadelphia to attend the 40th Annual Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards ceremony.
On Friday before homecoming weekend, Shippensburg University’s student section, the Red Sea, hosted a spirit rally to get students, faculty and alumni all pumped for homecoming weekend and the football game.
As the crowning of the 2022 Shippensburg Homecoming Court came closer, students enjoyed a “Night on the Ship” in a Vegas-style trivia match.

Shippensburg University alumni gathered behind Seth Grove Stadium for another year of tailgating befor the homecoming football game on Oct. 15. Alumni and current students gathered near their own cars or organization tents to socialize before the game. The Slate spoke with some of the alumni who attended this year’s SU tailgate to hear the recounts of the generations of SU alumni.
On Thursday, Sept. 29, Shippensburg University’s Director of Social Inclusion, Manuel Ruiz, and Residence Director Steven Lopez hosted an open discussion on personal identity and intersectionality.
The Career, Mentoring, and Professional Development Center held the Fall Job and Internship Fair at the ShipRec on Friday afternoon. Over 120 employers were in attendance to look for potential employees. There were job opportunities for various majors, ranging from law enforcement to health care. There were even options for students to continue their education at grad school. There was an opportunity for every student, no matter their career goals.
Students across the political spectrum were invited to attend a Political Speed Dating session on Thursday in the Ceddia Union Building (CUB) Multipurpose room (MPR).
Diversity Week and the Career Center had a collaboration last Wednesday that involved a speaker session on “How to find a DEI employer.” Manuel Ruiz, the assistant vice president for Inclusion & Belonging, and Jessica Henning, director of Selection and Development at Northwestern Mutual, lead the conversation.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, the 30th annual LSO Latino Explosion was held in the Ceddia Union Building MPR.
The Slater of the month for September is Margaret Sobotta, the Arts and Entertainment editor. Sobotta is recognized based on her assistance with all sections of the newspaper.
Diversity Week is a traditional festival of educational and impactful events that occur every fall semester. This year there are even more eye-opening events in which students can participate.
Jose Ricardo-Osorio, the associate dean of the College of Education and Human Services at Shippensburg University, directed a salsa class in the Ceddia Union Building (CUB) on Friday evening.
Reisner Dining Hall at Shippensburg University allows students to choose the music playing as they eat. All they have to do is install the Rockbot app on their phone and request the song. Students can become a higher-level DJ on the app by suggesting more songs that please the masses on the app. While there are many notable student DJs on SU’s campus, such as “JohnMayerEnjoyer” and “mamaslilboy,” there is one that stands out in the list of DJs — GrittyFan69.
Student life can be stressful and time consuming but finding time for fun is just as important as finishing schoolwork. Video games are a good outlet to have fun and relieve stress between classes.
