Shippensburg University students took the stage and showed off their skills at the annual Ship’s Got Talent hosted by the Activities Programming Board (APB) in the CUB MPR on the night of April 2.

Students signed up either individually or as a group with a variety of different talents to have a chance at winning the grand prize.

There were monetary prizes for the top three winners. First place took home $600, second place recieved $250 and third place got $150.

Three judges determined the top talents — SU President Charles Patterson, First Lady Colleen Patterson and Tammy Garrett, a long-time staff member of Shippensburg University Dining Services.

Many campus groups participated in Ship’s Got Talent, including In-Motion Dance Troupe, Heritage Dance and ELITE Modeling Troupe.

There were numerous solo singers who participated, including Caitlin Marron, who sang “She Used to Be Mine” from “Waitress,” Robbie Ansley with “Begin the Beguine” by Cole Porter and Madeline Thievon with “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret.”

Other key performances were from Abby Konkus, who sang an original song titled “Who I Wanna Be” while playing the ukulele, and Thomas Landis, whose drag performance had the entire audience cheering them on.

The judging process proved to be very difficult for the judges.

“We have some amazing talent here tonight,” said Coleen Patterson.

After they reached their verdict, the winners were announced: Heritage Dance took home first place, dancing to “Bing Bong” by Yailin la Más Viral; Ning-Yu Yang took second place, dancing to “Sticky” by Tyler, the Creator; and guitar and drums duo Mason Peters and Nic Goodwin placed third, playing to the song “Killing Time.”

The judges, performers and attendees alike celebrated the winners and performers as a whole.

As co-host of Ship’s Got Talent, Caitlyn Shetter said, “If one thing is certain, Ship does in fact have talent.”

APB has more events planned for the remainder of the spring semester, including the last bingo of the academic year, a rage room to help students de-stress before finals and a surprise pop-up event.
