The Shippensburg University lacrosse team hosted the Millersville Marauders on April 18 and won 13-5 on Senior Day.

The first goal of the game was scored by SU sophomore Maddie Phommachanh. The Raiders scored two more goals in the first quarter: one by senior Ali Pioli and the other by junior Olivia Glinski, which was assisted by senior Sydney Fowler. By the end of the first quarter, Millersville had yet to get on the board, giving Shippensburg a 3-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

Over halfway into the second quarter, the Raiders added to their lead with a goal by senior Shannon Wood assisted by Glinski. Shippensburg went on to score two more goals — another by Wood with an assist from Glinski, and the other by junior Alexa Bailey, which was unassisted. With less than four minutes remaining in the half, Millersville scored its first goal of the game.

To end the half, SU scored two more goals via an unassisted goal by freshman Aubrey Bailey and the second with another Wood goal assisted by Glinski. After a dominant first half, going into the third quarter the Raiders led the Marauders 8-1.

Less than two minutes into the third quarter, graduate Jill Ahlgren scored an unassisted goal. The Marauders responded shortly after with their second goal of the game. Following that, Bailey scored another goal assisted by Glinski. Junior Brynn Hauck then scored the Raiders’ last goal of the third quarter.

Moving into the fourth quarter the Raiders kept a commanding lead of 11-3. Glinski scored the first goal of the quarter with an assist from Wood.

Millersville then scored two more goals to start closing the gap, but it was too late. With about two minutes to go, Fowler scored a game sealing goal assisted by Pioli that finished the scoring and SU’s Senior Day with a 13-5 win.

Before the match, the team honored its six seniors with a pregame ceremony. Ahlgren, Shawn Coombs, Grace Demarzio, Fowler, Pioli, and Wood took to the field with their families, each with a pre-written message announced over the public address system.

The Raiders will finish their regular season schedule this week, beginning with a home contest against Shepherd at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. They will then travel to West Chester to play at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
