Shippensburg University lacrosse hosted the Kutztown Golden Bears on Saturday and lost 16-5 on Alumni Day.

The first goal of the game came early by SU freshman Lexi Koz and was assisted by junior Olivia Glinski. Kutztown answered almost immediately, and in less than 30 seconds after SU scored, Kutztown scored its first goal of the game.

In the first quarter, the Raiders responded with two more goals. The first was an unassisted goal scored by junior Alexa Bailey, and the second was another unassisted goal scored by senior Ali Pioli. After that, the Bears scored three goals in a row, leaving the end of the first quarter in a close 4-3 game with Kutztown in the lead.

The Raiders tied it up early in the second quarter with another goal by Koz before Kutztown scored three unanswered goals within four minutes. Kutztown scored its last goal of the half with 20 seconds remaining, giving the Golden Bears a lead of 8-4.

Almost six minutes into the third quarter, the Golden Bears scored their ninth goal. Shippensburg responded by scoring their last goal of the game by Bailey, which was assisted by graduate Jill Ahlgren. The third quarter ended with the Bears leading 11-5.

In the fourth quarter, Kutztown went on to score five more goals. Once the game became 15-5, the clock began to keep running until the end of the game. One of those goals was in the last seven seconds of the game, making the final score a 16-5 loss for SU.

Shippensburg played an aggressive game, causing six penalties, two of those being yellow cards by Pioli in the second half.

Shippensburg University lacrosse will travel to East Stroudsburg for a game at 3 p.m. Wednesday before returning to Robb Sports Complex Saturday, April 18, for a game at 12 p.m. against Millersville.
