The Shippensburg University baseball team completed a four-game series against Millersville this weekend, earning two wins in a home doubleheader on Friday and splitting a road doubleheader against the Marauders on Saturday.

It is the first time in nine years Shippensburg has clinched a series win over Millersville.

The Raiders defeated the Marauders by scores of 8–2 and 4–3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division action on Friday at Fairchild Field.

Shippensburg received a pair of splendid starting pitching performances from junior Conner Barto and freshman Jonah Mayer, and they slugged four home runs in the sweep.

Barto took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of Game 1. He issued a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh before being replaced, having allowed just two singles, three walks and two hit batters while striking out five. Barto improved to 6–1 on the season.

Mayer ran his record to 3–1 with five strong innings in Game 2, allowing just four hits and one walk, while striking out three. Sophomore Jacob Dennis notched a hold with a scoreless sixth, and senior Jack Robinson picked up his sixth save with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh.

Sophomores Thomas Cano-Piszel and Kyle Ausgotharp homered in the opener, while redshirt sophomore Brady Harbach and senior AJ Wenrich went deep in the nightcap.

Wenrich's homer, his team-leading sixth of the season, proved to be the game-winner. He finished the doubleheader with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Cano-Piszel registered a total of four hits, four RBIs and three runs scored in the doubleheader, including a 3-for-3 outing with seven total bases in Game 1.

Junior Jake Pope, who manned the leadoff spot for just the second and third times this season, stroked three hits in six at-bats and scored a pair of runs.

On Saturday, Shippensburg (20-11, 7-5) won the nightcap, 8–3, behind a two-hit performance from starting pitcher, redshirt sophomore Brady Kain over 5 2/3 innings. Ausgotharp also launched a three-run home run in the victory — one of three Raider long balls on the day and one of seven overall in the weekend series.

Millersville (21-10, 6-6) scored a comeback win in the opener, 6–5, in eight innings.

Solo home runs by Cano-Piszel and freshman Caden Lloyd powered the Raiders to a 5–2 edge after four and a half innings. However, the Marauders rallied from a three-run deficit to force extra innings, eventually winning the opener in walk-off fashion.

Redshirt sophomore Kaleb Maksimik started for Shippensburg and went 4 1/3 innings. Senior Brenden Anderson allowed just one run on one hit in three solid innings of relief.

In Game 2, Kain took a no-hit bid into the fifth inning and combined with two Shippensburg relievers to hold the Marauders to three runs on just two total hits.

The SU offense provided the right-hander with a quick and early leader courtesy of a two-out RBI single from junior Ty Sherman in the top half of the first inning.

The Raiders rallied four more in their next turn, as Ausgotharp went opposite field with two men on for his fourth home run of the season to make it 4-0, and Wenrich added a fifth run on an RBI groundout.

Cano-Piszel extended his hit streak to 17 straight with an RBI knock in the sixth, while relievers freshman Nathan Lake and Robinson did not allow a hit over a combined 1 1/3 innings to wrap up the win.

The Raiders collected a total of 11 hits in the nightcap. Ausgotharp, junior Mason Morris and freshman Lucas Ream finished with two hits apiece.

The Raiders will travel to West Chester for a doubleheader to start off a four-game series before returning home to close out the series with another doubleheader. Games will begin at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. for both days. Saturday’s home games will commemorate Alumni Day.
