2026-27 operating budget approved at April 2 public SGA meeting

Shippensburg University’s Student Government Association (SGA) held its third public meeting of the semester on Thursday, April 2, at 4 p.m. in CUB 119.

At Thursday’s meeting, SGA members voted on the approval of the 2026-27 operating budget. The approval of the budget passed unanimously. Budget and finance committee voting rights were also unanimously approved for International Students Senator Samhitha Koganti.

According to SGA Vice President of Finance Emily Wojnarski, SU President Charles Patterson gave his approval to the operating budget on Thursday, March 23. Additionally, the budget and finance committee will be holding its last meeting of the semester on Tuesday, April 14, at 3:30 p.m. in CUB 240.

After each officer gave their brief reports, present senators provided updates. Class of 2028 Senator Ben Perrin informed the audience of an upcoming event called SGA spring cleaning.

“I’m fielding donations from students for clothes and then reselling them for super cheap, and the benefits go to SGA and the SUSSI office,” Perrin said. Collections begin on Monday, April 6.

According to MSA Senator Kamryn Wilkerson, the Latino Student Organization is hosting a Latin night in the CUB MPR on Saturday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. The Statewide weekend will be held from April 24 to April 26, which will begin with an MSA grille and chill at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, Wilkerson said.

During University Committee reports, VP of Student Groups informed the audience of updates about online course programs at a recent President’s Cabinet meeting on March 30. According to Garrison, business management, marketing and psychology saw 68 applications with 21 admitted students.

As the public turnout for Thursday’s meeting was low, open gallery discussion questions were limited and brief. The meeting concluded with the votes on the operating budget and the new budget and finance committee member.

Senator speeches will be held on April 16, at 5 p.m. in McFeely’s in the CUB, Wojnarski added.

SGA President Ella Zinn adjourned the meeting at 4:42 p.m.
