Tau Kappa held a clothing and accessories sale titled “Project Prom” in Heiges Field House from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.

Tau Kappa is an honors athletics sorority at Shippensburg University with over 50 members across the women’s athletics program. According to Tau Kappa President Samantha Lerario, Project Prom is the sorority’s legacy project.

“The first Project Prom was held in 2010 and was established to give young girls in the surrounding area a chance to find an inexpensive dress for their high school prom,” Lerario said.

Dresses are not the only items sold at Project Prom events. There were various displays set up for shoes, purses, jewelry and cosmetics. All items are sold for less than $30, with the proceeds being given to a charity chosen by Tau Kappa members.

“This year, the charity we are donating to is the B.E.E. Tough Foundation, a nonprofit organization created in memory of the late Brooke Emery, a former Shippensburg University track-and-field student athlete,” Lerario said.

According to its website, the B.E.E. Tough Foundation honors Brooke’s memory through charitable events and awarding scholarships to local students. Such charitable events include donating athletic shoes and equipment to underprivileged elementary students.

More information on the nonprofit can be found at beetoughfoundation.com.

Tau Kappa also provides free dress vouchers to Community Cares, a family shelter located on East Burd Street in Shippensburg.

Along with a sale of clothing and accessories, Project Prom includes a raffle with prize baskets donated by members of different athletic teams across campus.
