Shippensburg softball faces IUP and Pace

Shippensburg University’s softball team had a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday against Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Pace. Shippensburg won one game of each set.

Facing IUP on Friday, Shippensburg won its first game with a score of 9-1. Neither team scored until the second inning, with senior Lindey Haser hitting a single and bringing freshman Leah Schwalm  home to score the first run of the game.

Following that, senior Caitlyn Martell hit a single bringing senior Emilee Sullivan home. Sophomore Gianna Cimino hit a home run, bringing three runs in and making the score 5-0 at the end of the second inning.

In the third inning, senior Emilee Sullivan hit a double, securing the run of senior Rilee Ehralacher, bringing the score to 6-0. In the next inning, Cimino scored off an error, making  the score 7-0 . 

The fifth and final inning had IUP scoring a run to make it 7-1.

For Shippensburg, freshman Chaunda Poulin scored via an error. Following that, Martell hit a fly ball, but junior Emily Lafferty was able to score, finishing the game with a score of 9-1.

In the second game of the day, Shippensburg lost against IUP with a score of 10-2.

In the first inning, SU started off good with Ehrlacher hitting a single and bringing Cimino home to start with a score of 1-0.

In the third inning, IUP scored a home run resulting in two runs with a score of 2-1. 

In the fourth inning, IUP scored a total of seven runs from a single, a bases-loaded walk with full bases, and three doubles finishing the inning with a  9-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, Sullivan was hit by a pitch advancing junior Reagan Bauman to home, ending the inning with 9-2 score.

In the sixth inning, IUP hit a single resulting in a final score of 10-2.

On Saturday, Shippensburg played two games against Pace, winning the first with a score of 9-1.

Starting out strong in the second inning, Shippensburg scored a run from senior Lindsey Haser hitting a fly ball and Bauman making it to home for a score of 1-0 .

Keeping up the momentum in the third inning, Ehrlacher hit a double bringing Martell home. Following that, Sullivan hit a single bringing Ehrlacher home, ending the inning with a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, Pace hit a triple, earning a run and bringing the score to 3-1.

Finishing off the game strong, the Raiders scored 5 runs. Cimino got a single, bringing both sophomore Emma Hussein and Poulin home. Then, junior Brie Wilmot was hit by a pitch advancing Martell home. Following that, Bauman hit a single bringing Lafferty home. After that, Haser hit a single to bring Sullivan home.

In the second game of the series against Pace, Shippensburg lost the game with a score of 7-4.

In the top of the second inning, Pace scored four runs from two doubles. Following that in the bottom of the second inning, Bauman hit a home run bringing herself home with a score of 4-1 to end the inning.

In the third inning, Pace scored 2 more runs from two players getting hit by pitches finishing the inning with a 6-1 lead.

Moving to the fifth inning, the Raiders scored two more runs from Martell hitting a single to bring Bauman home. Followed by Cimino hitting a single to bring Lafferty home ending the inning with a 6-3 deficit.

The sixth inning had Pace scoring another run from a single, bringing the score to 7-3.

The seventh inning had Cimino hitting a home run and bringing herself home to end the game with a score of 7-4.

SU will face Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Robb Field at 1 p.m., before four neutral-site games in Salem, Virginia, this weekend. There, they will face Charleston and West Liberty on Saturday before playing Slippery Rock and
