The Shippensburg University lacrosse team traveled to two different Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponents this past week.

On Wednesday, the Raiders visited Shepherd and lost 19-15 to the Rams.

The first goal of the game came from SU sophomore Maddie Phommachanh and was assisted by junior Alexa Bailey. A little less than three minutes later, Shepherd answered with a goal of its own.

The first quarter consisted of back-and-forth action between the teams. Going into the second quarter, the Rams were ahead by one.

Shepherd extended its lead in the second quarter, scoring five goals compared to the Raiders three. At the end of the half, the Rams stayed ahead with a score of 8-5.

About two and a half minutes into the third quarter, Shepherd scored its ninth goal. Shippensburg began to comeback and took the lead for a short amount of time. At the end of the third quarter, the Raiders trailed by one goal again, and the score was 12-11.

In the fourth quarter, Shepherd pulled ahead again and secured its win. The Raiders scored one more goal in the last 52 seconds from Phommachanh. SU had one last attempt at getting closer to the Rams, when senior Ali Pioli took a shot in the last 10 seconds, but it was wide.

Leading the Raider offense were Phommachanh and freshman Lexi Koz who contributed five goals each. Phommachanh brought her season total to 21 goals.

On Saturday, SU faced Millersville. The Raiders earned an early lead against MU. Shippensburg was ahead 3-1 at the end of the first quarter with goals from Bailey, junior Brynn Hauck, and Koz.

During the second quarter, the Raider defense shone and left the Marauders scoreless. The offense added to the lead, making it 5-1 going into the second half.

The Raiders added three more points to the board in the third, and Millersville added two of their own. Heading into the fourth, Shippensburg led 8-3.

Although, the lead did not last much longer when MU began a comeback and added six goals. The Marauders held the Raiders to one goal in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 9-9, forcing overtime.

With 42 seconds left in the overtime period, Millersville scored the winning goal, and the Raiders lost their second game of the week.

Currently, Shippensburg is 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the PSAC East. SU will play West Chester on Wednesday at home at 1 p.m. before traveling to Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
